Melbourne Central

This project reimagines the wayfinding system for Melbourne Central, transforming it from a purely functional tool into a more intuitive and engaging experience. As a dense, multi-level environment that operates as both transport hub and retail destination, navigation can feel overwhelming due to complex layouts, low-visibility signage, and disrupted pedestrian flow. The project responds by repositioning wayfinding as a system that not only directs, but enhances how users move through and understand the space. A cohesive visual system was developed to improve clarity and usability, using bold, high-contrast elements, clear typographic hierarchy, and structured layouts for quick comprehension. Inspired by the centre’s architectural features, the design introduces distinct visual cues and zoning to help users mentally map the environment and navigate with ease. Resulting in a wayfinding experience that feels seamless and intuitive demonstrating how design can simplify complexity while creating a more cohesive and user-centred spatial journey.
